As is par for the course, Kingwood Medical Center is a thorn in our side. Katy was recently admitted with kidney stones, had a stint put in place, antibiotics, etc, and now Kingwood doesn’t want to remove the stones or the stint without charging us $11,000 (which is more than they charged for her ostomy reversal in December) in advance. I truly cannot wait to not deal with this hospital again. Unfortunately, they are so close to us that we sometimes have no choice.
On the first day of Katy’s last stay I told them that her blood pressure was not right, and that every time I see those numbers something is wrong. They ignored me. I raised a rucus, and they asked what I wanted. I said that every time we go to KMC, they do a horrible job of taking care of Katy, don’t listen to about her vitals, and, usually after 3-4 days, something really bad happens, and then they run in apologizing and saying how sorry they are. I told them that we usually spend 3-4 extra days in the hospital every time than we need to. They assured me it wouldn’t happen, and then, of course, it did. Katy kept having a fever after she was showing clear test results, I said that usually is a sign of sepsis, and a hidden infection. They didn;t listen until I pushed, and then they find the kidney stones. Now, after all of that, they don’t want to finish the job, and they still haven’t sent the test results to Boston as we, and Boston, have requested many times. Anyone know a good malpractice attorney?
In spite of all of this, Katy has kept a positive attitude, and a smiling face. We keep edging towards our goal, and still plan on being in New England in early July.
Thank you all for your continued support. We couldn’t do this without all of you.
Love,
Al
hi i came across your page while net surfing.. truly so very sad to hear about your wife.. is it a common thing in america to not to be able to access medical care unless you pay money upfront? im really extremely shocked to read that.. i live in australia and ALL medical care is free..if someone needs medical care they need it.. to withhold medical care until you pay money is disgraceful..utterly appaling.. its inhumane.. as a nurse .. i am truly sorry that your family is being treated this way..
i really hope that pray that things will get better for all of you
Kristin, Greed has taken over the U.S. One side is trying to give our citizens access to universal health coverage, the other is fighting tooth and nail to stop it from happening. Yet half of Americans support the side that wants to stop it. America is no longer the best nation thanks to this ideology and the people that suport it.
Al…I just read Katy’s story in Huffington Post and am wishing you such success with the transplants. I am having the biggest surgery of my life June 25th at Brigham with Dr Julian Pribaz and others of the plastic surgeon team as well as Dr Brent Shoji. It’s about my 20th major surgery but 1st time at Brigham. I’m fortunate tho to live just outside of Boston. While I’ll be recuperating when you are here I would love to give you my number if you guys want to talk or sound off or anything. If well enough I’d love to say hello in person. Please give my Prayers to Katy and know I’m thinking of you all! You are the most amazing couple!
We would LOVE to meet you! Shoot me an e-mail at alhayesmusic@yahoo.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
Hi Katy & Al, I am your neighbor around the corner. This is such BS, but what you can do is go to another hospital.
Katy, I saw you on Channel 11 last week & you looked so good-smiling, picking up the cup!
Love your positive attitude. Hang in there-God has the plan & you will have your new arms before you know it!
Love you, Nancy
Katy and Al, I came across your page while reading articles on Huffinton Post. I read articles everyday, and click on ones that I find interesting. I just wanted you both to know that I am just one more person that will be saying prayers for you from now on. I don’t know if you believe in God or not, but I believe that he is in control, and has a plan for each and every one of ours lives. Sometimes we cannot understand it…why do these types of things happen to good people?? But, we just have to have faith, that there IS a purpose, and just trust that God has you in his hands. Katy you humble me, and inspire me by your strength to keep living and moving forward! I am a mommy of two little toddlers, and I cannot even begin to imagine the pain you must go through on a daily basis or The emotional struggles that you feel. I wish you the best success possible, and just know that your kids will learn so much from your strength and amazing example of what it means to fight to live every day.
