I am so sorry that it has taken this long to post. This last year has been hectic. I will post some quick details now, and I will elaborate in the coming posts. Thank you for your patience with me!
Katy is doing wonderfully. She had her reconnection surgery (intestines) last December, and is ahead of the curve as far as recovery and independance…like we knew she would! The biggestnews is…….
KATY IS GETTING ARM TRANSPLANTS!!!
She is finishing testing as we speak, and should be listed on the organ donors waiting list this Summer. She has been working out her shoulders (per the request of her doctors) every day, and is so excited about the upcoming adventure. We interviewed several hospitals, and they interviewed us, and we decided on Brigham Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. The team there is very skilled, answered all of our questions, and left us feeling comfortable with them as a whole. As soon as we get the call that Katy is listed, then Katy, Jake, Arielle, and I are headed for New England.
We have been scrambling to raise funds for the upcoming travels, therapies, etc. I am guessing the cost of the next 2-3 years to be around $200,000! We are having a few fund raisers, and, as always, there is www.katyhayesfund.com for people to send donations. Anyone wanting to send money directly can send it to Main N More c/o Al and Katy Hayes 3007 Woodland Hills Drive, Kingwood, TX 77339. Thanks to all of you who have, and will, help us in our goal. As much as we are excited about Katy getting arms, we are also excited about what this surgery could mean for so many veterans, people with disabilities, and people with diabeted. 10 years ago this was all science fiction, and now…….
Arielle is so big! She is such a joy, and she is talking more every day. She cracks us up with all of her new expressions.
Jake is ready for Summer, and is excited about spending several months in New England. I hope that I can free a little bit of time to take him to see some historical sites while we are in Boston.
Amber is almost done with high school! I know she is excited about her Summer with her dad, and starting college in the fall.
I will post more real soon….I PROMISE. Thanks, again, for all the love and support you have given us.
Love to All,
