First, and most importantly, we are all fine. We are still waiting on “the call,” and continue to go through the paces of the daily routine. We got the call last week that our house in Kingwood was broken in to. They made a mess, but didn’t take anything. Our neighbors boarded up the door, and Katy’s mom started driving to Kingwood to watch the house. She arrived today, but not before they broke in again. This time they got 2 guns, a tv, a computer, and a coin collection…at least that is what we have found so far. The stuff (guns/coins) they took belonged to my grandfather. He got them when he was a young man, and fed his family with them. My dad learned to shoot, and hunted with them, when he was a boy. I, too, learned to shoot with them, and hope to pass them onto my kids. The coins were coins from all over the world that my grandfather collected through his entire life. They also took my battery charger and tried to steal my other van, but were unsuccessful.
Now the cops have come and gone, the door is being fixed, the house is being cleaned, and a new alarm is being installed. Even though we all fell violated, we are reminded that “stuff” is just “stuff.” What is truly important to me is with me. Everything can be replaced except family and friends.
If you live in Kingwood, please, please, please be alert. The cops said that this has been happening a lot. I hope you all have a safe and happy week and weekend.
Love,
Al
Well, I can’t put a like on this. What a shame such important belongings were stolen. I know the feeling of being violated by a theif. . It stinks to be honest. Was cooking dinner and found your post thinking it was Katy’s situation not going so well. Thank God everything is proceeding as planned up there. Hope you all are feathering the cold, snowy weather alright. I’m sure it’s entertainment for the children. Those were the good old days for this oldie. We watched the report on he young Vet that received two arms ,and in the report they mentioned the Texas woman (Katy). From the report I came away believing the wait list is about 4 or five. Don’t know if have that right. We continue to pray for Katys and your good health and that the miracle you are awaiting comes soon. I was suprised by the new way of doing the transplant with a bone marrow transplant also. I believe that’s what I heard. It makes sense. Is the Dr. from U of Pttbsburg that is in charge of these type of tranplants? That had been brought up for our Gayle but it never came about because of other problems she had. Oh I can’t wait to hear about Katy’s surgery.. Take care all of you Prayers as always and God Bless. Will keep watching for good news. It will come……..:-)
Best wishes from Betty and Bob in Fl.
thanks for this news, albeit crappiola news……….? part of “normal life”? yuck…….Think of you often and whisper a prayer for peace in your hearts as you all go through your days and nights- Our daughter is a teacher in Boston- I have told her of the little club you frequent- I could not find Al;s post where he mentions the name- Could you forward that and I will give it to our daughter and her boyfriend- More snow on the way BUT March just around the corner and just the sound of the word March? isn’t it a great word!!! AND the St Patricks Day parade for Boston is NOT to be missed-
Even tho we’ve never met, you are all embraced in the love of the human family-

Gayle,
The place is Smoken Joe’s BBQ and Blues in Brighton. Tell her to make a reservation, though. It packs! Stay warm!
Al, I really enjoy the updates that you send out. Pray for you, your family, and Katy that all will turn out as hoped. Like Elizabeth, I read about the man that got the two arms, and immediately thought about your Katy.
Betty, I think of you, Robert, Gayle’s, husband and children often> I got so attatched to the family when everything was going on with Gayle….
So sorry to hear about the breakin. I am your neighbor around the corner & pass your house almost every day. Your home was always dark and it was obvious that no one lived there so I was afraid someone would break-in. I thought you might have someone watching after it since I had offered to Katy before you left. Kingwood is a prime area for break-ins & car thefts. You can go to spotcrime.com to view where break-ins have happened in Kingwood.
I continue to keep yur family in my prayers & wish life’s best for all of you.

The house was being watched, but this guy lived really close and knew the people’s schedule. He was caught, and is facing several felony charges. He broke into 19 homes in our neighborhood, and got away with tens of thousands of dollars worth of stuff. He got a few of your neighbors, too! The cops are still looking for 11 others involved in the recent rash of crimes, so please be careful and alert!
I guess that’s what you get for leaving the house unattended.

Just found your story today and have been reading your Blog from the beginning. I’m truly amazed and inspired by Katy’s beautiful spirit! I can tell from reading your blog that you have an AMAZING family and one tough Mama who never gives up!! I love that you two have such a beautiful marriage and that you have both been so very strong for each other. Your children are so lucky to have you both! Life has truly thrown you some curve balls but neither of you have quit the game….you keep getting up to bat….you keep playing….you keep fighting the fight and climbing the hill…no matter how steep or how hard it is. I am eager to follow your blog and root for your family! I can’t wait to hear the awesome news of Katy getting her new arms! I know that there has been a lot of pain and struggles in your lives….but I can tell that there is SOOOO much GOOD in store for you and your family. “Ain’t no mountain high enough!” The two of you are a DYNAMIC DUO!!!
