I am sorry for the delay in writing. To be honest, the blog became emotionally draining on me. Also, there isn;t much happening. We get up every day, eat, I go to work, and I come home on most days after everyone except Katy has gone to bed. It isn’t nearly as “interesting” as it once was. That being said, I have finally gotten past a certain point in my emotional recovery that I think I can write again.
The baby is getting so big! She is walking everywhere, and I believe she eats more than the other two kids!
Katy walks almost every day of the week, and uses her arms to do rehab with the dominos, and also to use a stylus to surf the internet on her new tablet. She has had all of her blood tests come back normal for the last 4 months, and hasn’t been in the hospital since December.
Amber is doing great in school! She is ready for a Summer break, and will be spending a month in Austin with her dad. We get letters every day from colleges courting her!
Jake is ready for Summer break! He will be hanging with friends, riding his bike, and spending a few weeks with me at the beach for Rock N Roll band camp.
Katy is singing in our band, Soulshine. She does backups, and I play guitar. You can check us out on www.reverbnation.com/soulshinebandtx.
Thank is about all I have time for now. I hope this update finds all of you well.
Love to all,
Al
I saw Katy in a magazine article with her full set of prosthetics and it warmed my heart to see how happy she looked, like nothing in this world will ever knock her down. Such a strong and amazing family you all are. I hope all continues to do well for her. She’s worked hard and she deserves every bit of happiness that comes her way (tenfold).
Prayers and well wishes to everyone,
Stacey
I continue to be amazed by you, Katy, and the family. I can certainly see how you both would have been emotionally drained from all of your 2010 experiences and needed time away from blogging. I am so grateful for you guys that life is “less interesting” and that there is a kind of normality forming. It’s good to hear that the kids are progressing as well. I read the People article on you guys. It was very gratifying. Also listened to all your songs on the internet and loved them. Would love to come and hear you in person and so when we are in the Houston area, we will look up your schedule. Saw your dad and Faith Saturday at the Hayes Family Reunion in Many, Louisiana. The one day is so short, didn’t actually get to visit with them at length. They seem to be doing well. Faith is so much better since her surgery last year. Thank God for that. I pray for all of your continued progress. Thanks for the update. I think I speak for many of your readers when I say that we grew so attached to you guys last year that we now still want to know you all are doing well, even though we don’t actually know you personally. We also understand that you have a life and do not “owe” us regular updates. May God continue to bless you all.
Hi Katy & Al:
So glad to hear from you again; have been getting updates from Lucille at Toastmasters. Your article in People Magazine was wonderful. I keep you all in my prayers for your continued progress. You are very special people and I knew in my heart that Katy would come through.
Blessing and Love to you all

Hi Al, Katy and family,
I am happy to hear that you are all doing well. That is so awesome. It just warms my heart and I know that Katy has a big smile on her face most of the time these days. She has always been a ray of sunshine. I want to thank you for all you have posted. It has a new meaning for me these days. Today my family received word that my mother has MRSA on her face. Not sure if it is any further (neck and chest). We are thinking positive. Prayers are being said. She went to the ER last Sunday where they treated her for an allergic reaction to meds…so they thought. I took her back in last Monday when it got worse…they wanted to treat her for the same and send her home. I refused and demanded that she receive antibiotics too. So they ended up keeping her over for observation for a day then moved her in for further followup. By Wednesday they wanted to send her home…even though she was getting worse. By Thursday she was in emergency surgery (during the time my sister was having her baby). It has been a whirlwind of a week…to say the least. My mother was moved Thursday evening to a new hospital to receive hyperbaric treatment. Yet today she had more surgery. Her health appears to be failing but we are being strong and pray that everything works out for the best.
Thank you again for all you have provided. I feel strength in knowing that my mother is not the only one this has happened to. It is going to be difficult as I will be out of town this week for work and I will not be around to advocate for her or be there for support. I believe that she will make it. I have faith and hope.
God Bless to you and your family,
Marlene

We have never met, but I followed your blog, and it’s great to get an update. Congratulations to all of you.
